Attendees will learn about the main interventions, use of group process, and strategies for emotional regulation of these models. Both approaches are widely used to treat this prevalent disorder. The differences in the structural models of the two approaches to group, the relative use of traditional group therapeutic factors (Yalom), the therapist’s style, and the hypothesized mechanism of change will be described supplemented by case examples. The contrasting methods these models use to achieve emotional regulation and deeper schema change for BPD clients and the way individual sessions are utilized will be outlined. Both presenters have extensive experience working with people with BPD in group settings. Dr. Farrell is one of the creators of Group Schema Therapy and specialized in group and individual BPD treatment for 30 years. Ms. Kim has significant training and experience in both GST and DBT.
